Shorewood’s eclectic building mix includes new and vintage spaces to fit your location needs. Recently completed in Shorewood is a new mixed-use commercial development, The Cornerstone, featuring luxury apartments and four retailers at the northern border of the Village. This property has already received several awards, including the “Best of Public/Private Partnership” designation from the Business Journal, and an Intergovernmental Cooperation Award in 2010 from the Public Policy Forum in Southeastern Wisconsin. Another mixed-use development will be built across the street from The Cornerstone, with groundbreaking during the summer of 2011.
Other commercial projects are also on the horizon, including a proposed redevelopment on North Oakland Ave. that will include Walgreens and parking on the first level and 84 apartments on upper levels.

Consumer Survey
A recent 2009 retail market study found that Shorewood offers well-sized commercial clusters where new businesses share customers with established businesses. Vintage spaces and new spaces in a variety of sizes offer space suitable for nearly any specialty retail or restaurant business. Also, strong municipal government support stabilizes investment in Shorewood stores and restaurants. And clearly Shorewood’s customers enjoy the experience of our very walkable and accessible shopping opportunities. Some of the survey highlights include:
- With more than 80% of respondents visiting Shorewood businesses at least weekly, clearly survey respondents have embraced the shops of Shorewood.
- More than 60% of respondents would spend more if these businesses categories were added: home accessories, specialty foods and clothing/apparel.
- More than 60% of respondents reported that they would spend more if casual dining or counter-service restaurants were added.
- More than 70% of respondents rated Shorewood commercial area’s :general safety” and “cleanliness” as excellent or above average.
- More than 75% of respondents rate traffic flow and parking convenience as key factors in their satisfaction with visiting Shorewood’s shopping district.
